My Top 10 - Janica Schonbrun

I recently caught up with Janica and pressganged her into giving me her current Top 10 tunes, complete with links where applicable, so you can get a flavour of what she's all about and what you'll hear in one of her awesome Monday sets... Check it out.

1: The Retrosic - Bomb - From the samples to the sudden stops a lovely song all around. The sirens and extremely low thuddy base sell it for me too.

2: Plump DJs - Torque of the Devil - A song from one of the bands that Amanda's turned me on to.  This is my favorite driving song right now to put the windows down and turn up the volume and listen to the widely dynamic bass find the harmonics in my car.

3: :Wumpscut: - Flangegod - A driving midrange that has been heavily flanged which is interwoven with a melodic, clean high to counterpoint the dirty feel of the driving flange.  Everytime I listen to the song each part manages to steal my attention in different places.

4: The Prodigy - Invaders Must Die - New Prodigy that has the feel of old, old Prodigy. Don't really need much more of a reason than that. =)

5: The Prodigy - Thunder - Another one from Invaders Must Die. The whole ablum is fun.  It was a tossup between this and Warrior's Dance.

6: Painbastard - Digging Our Own Graves - A fast song that really gets the blood pumping.  I really enjoy the agressive feel to the song.

7: LCD Soundsystem - North American Scum - This song is pretty wacky and it's about rich American party kids, and some in general. The vocals and lyrics are fun and the tune is very catchy.

8: Information Society - Sonambulisitic - Synthesizer is a great album all around. I'm currently in a mood for this song out them all right now becuase of the bouncy mids, braying horns, and impacting bass melded together.

9: Combichrist - Get Your Body Beat - I'm a big fan of Combi in his various projects. This particular song starts very simple and builds and builds and then gets right in your face then eases some only to build back up a few times during the whole thing.

10: And One - Enjoy The Unknown - I listen to a good bit of German and European bands because a lot of the music styles I like are made there. And One is pretty close to the tops for me.  The song is very clean overall, the vocals and lyrics fit, and I particularly enjoy this one from And One because I share my love of this song with a good friend of mine.

Sweet Like Candy

Republik is pleased to announce that after the success of the Candy Girls Pyjama Party held on Saturday, the night is going monthly!

Yup, the girls are taking over the club on the last Saturday of every month, from 5-7pm PDT with Miss Cyberpink on the decks, although guest DJs may well be drafted in now and then, just for fun. The main theme will again be the pyjama party, because it gives us an excuse to decorate the place and have more fun than usual. Check out the Republik Flickr group for pics from last night.

As you may or may not be aware, Candy Girls has been running for some time, but laid dormant for a while, however it's back now baby, yeah! It's girls only night, just to make you aware too, so if you are a bloke and you TP in, please don't be offended if you're politely asked to leave. It's just one night a month and as it's been said before, girls just wanna have fun.

Candy Girls does have it's own SL group, which is free to join, so if you're interested then please search for 'The Candy Girls' and make sure that it's the group founded by Republik's own Amanda Shinji, then you'll know you're in the right place!

See all you girls for another sleepover at the end of the month!!!

F*ck us, we're famous...

Wow, we all like a bit of nice press now and again, but this rather cool write up from Kitty O'Toole on her Kittywitchin blog is pretty damned cool... Don't take my word for it, read it for yourself.

Begging for it...

Ever come across a track that is a little out of the oridinary, or has just the right ambience and you're left thinking "This is begging for a remix"?

I come across these quite often, so I thought I'd start posting them here for your enjoyment. They stand up as solid tracks on their own and you never know, maybe someone will agree and actually do the deed!

If you do... please pass me a link, or an mp3 and I'll repost it here! If you have any "Begging for it" tracks of your own that you've found, pass those along too! :D

This is the first, a dubby little stew called None Of Them by Fenin, released on the Shitkatapult label in 2005. Enjoy!
