My Top 10 - Janica Schonbrun

I recently caught up with Janica and pressganged her into giving me her current Top 10 tunes, complete with links where applicable, so you can get a flavour of what she's all about and what you'll hear in one of her awesome Monday sets... Check it out.

1: The Retrosic - Bomb - From the samples to the sudden stops a lovely song all around. The sirens and extremely low thuddy base sell it for me too.

2: Plump DJs - Torque of the Devil - A song from one of the bands that Amanda's turned me on to.  This is my favorite driving song right now to put the windows down and turn up the volume and listen to the widely dynamic bass find the harmonics in my car.

3: :Wumpscut: - Flangegod - A driving midrange that has been heavily flanged which is interwoven with a melodic, clean high to counterpoint the dirty feel of the driving flange.  Everytime I listen to the song each part manages to steal my attention in different places.

4: The Prodigy - Invaders Must Die - New Prodigy that has the feel of old, old Prodigy. Don't really need much more of a reason than that. =)

5: The Prodigy - Thunder - Another one from Invaders Must Die. The whole ablum is fun.  It was a tossup between this and Warrior's Dance.

6: Painbastard - Digging Our Own Graves - A fast song that really gets the blood pumping.  I really enjoy the agressive feel to the song.

7: LCD Soundsystem - North American Scum - This song is pretty wacky and it's about rich American party kids, and some in general. The vocals and lyrics are fun and the tune is very catchy.

8: Information Society - Sonambulisitic - Synthesizer is a great album all around. I'm currently in a mood for this song out them all right now becuase of the bouncy mids, braying horns, and impacting bass melded together.

9: Combichrist - Get Your Body Beat - I'm a big fan of Combi in his various projects. This particular song starts very simple and builds and builds and then gets right in your face then eases some only to build back up a few times during the whole thing.

10: And One - Enjoy The Unknown - I listen to a good bit of German and European bands because a lot of the music styles I like are made there. And One is pretty close to the tops for me.  The song is very clean overall, the vocals and lyrics fit, and I particularly enjoy this one from And One because I share my love of this song with a good friend of mine.

My Top 10 - Miss Cyberpink

I thought it was time I redid my Top 10 list to reflect the tunes, new and old that I'm currently loving to bits...

1: Justin Timberlake - Lovestoned (Tiesto remix) - Yeah, I know it's Justin Timberlake, but this is the achingly amazing Tiesto remix, which emphasises the gorgeous strings section and maxes it to the full potential. It's the strings that I love in the original with the beautiful chord progression, so having a remix that highlights this is perfect for me.

2: La Roux - Bulletproof - This is the as yet unreleased single from La Roux, she of 'In For The Kill' fame and oh my God, if I didn't know better I'd say that this is a new Vince Clarke project because the whole feel of the programming, the composition and the synths is pure Erasure. There are a couple of remixes out there, but the normal 7" mix is doing it for me at the moment.

3: U2 - Magnificent (Fred Falke remix) - I adore the normal single version of this record, it's just a fantastic track, but the Fred Falke remix sends me into raptures with the traditional filtered house sound we've come to love Mr. Falke so much for. It just makes a great record even better.

4: Rex the Dog - Bubbleicious (Rex the Dog 12" Disco mix) - Whilst on a Vince Clarke tip from above, this cheeky little electro number samples chunks of Yazoo's 'Midnight' and slots them into a cracking electro beat. Alison Moyet never sounded so good.

5: The Prodigy - Warrior's Dance - After the disappointment that was 'Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned', Liam Howlett has redeemed himself fully with the new album 'Invaders Must Die' and this, the third single is a proper stomper. I've heard this so many times now whilst in the car and I don't tire of it. I'm still saying that the new Prodigy album is going to take some beating in 2009.

6: David Guetta feat. Kelly Rowland - When Love Takes Over (Extended mix) - This instantly draws parallels with Coldplay's 'Clocks' when you hear the driving piano melody, but thats no bad thing at all. It's a proper uplifting modern piano house track that puts a smile on your face and takes you away to sunnier places whenever you hear it.

7: A.R. Rahman feat. Pussycat Dolls - Jai Ho (Soulseekerz remix) - This isn't a bad tune as a straightforward single, but the Soulseekerz reworking gives it some serious dancefloor punch that you can slip into any electro set.

8: Mason - The Ridge (Tommy Trash remix) - I'm still loving this track, the synth hook just makes me melt. The Oliver Klein & Peter Jurgens mix is nice, but the Tommy Trash mix is harder and really does it for me

8: Paul Hartnoll feat. Robert Smith - Please (Remember 1992 mix) - Not a new track this one, but one that I've been listening to again a bit, because it has that legendary Orbital sound to it, which is never a bad thing. The single is nice, this remix by Paul himself is even better though.

9: Dash Berlin feat. Cerf, Mitiska & Jaren - Man on the Run  - Ooh, slipping into trance territory here with this track that'd slip nicely into an electro or trance set. Can't really say why I love this, there is no one element that stands out, I just heard it and bought it. 'Nuff said.

10: Andy Moor - Halcyon (Alex Morph remix) - This was an impulse buy. I listened to about 30 seconds of this, loved it and snapped it up. Granted, it's not the world's most amazing trance record, but it's a damn sight better than a lot of the commercial rubbish around at the moment and it earns a place in any trance set I spin.
